Contemplation in Mauritius

My salutations to all pious souls….

In a similar way that I tell you to write down the name of your child on a piece of paper and surrender it to whichever form of God you believe in, so that your attention (chitta) will be diverted away from your child, I too have done the same. For eight days I meticulously remembered all the tasks regarding the trust, the ashram, future plans and wrote all of them down in a diary in a very calm state of mind and handed it over to Shri Anuragji and Shri Ambareeshji. I told them that each one of its page has a task written on it and once the task is completed I instructed them to remove the page. After doing so I removed my attention (chitta) from the administration of the Trust. I started giving more time to meditation and the good effect of this was that even sadhaks started experiencing a deeper level of meditation.

Just yesterday I returned after a week-long trip to Mauritius. I found Mauritius to be a very good country and it is a small island country in between the sea. The population there is small and the majority of the people there are of Indian origin. This is the reason why the people living there have a special affinity towards Indian people. Every house there had a small temple of Lord Hanuman. There was an idol of Lord Mahadev which was 108 feet tall. There is a favourable atmosphere in Mauritius to meditate. Tortoises that were about 400 years old can be seen there in large numbers.

For the entire week I only contemplated on Samarpan meditation. Samarpan meditation is a form of meditation which needs to be understood in its true form, needs to be recognised in its true form. I found it necessary to put forth a few things so that Sadhaks can progress better and by knowing these facts sadhaks can benefit more out of meditation.

1) Lack of complete Faith: When I meditated, I had complete faith in the Guru element (Gurutatva) that is why even when I was with different Gurus I never felt that they were different from each other. Today I realise that the faith of our sadhaks is scattered and that is why their progress is marginal.

2) Lack of complete Trust: It is Faith that always builds Trust. If there is no complete faith then how can there be complete Trust? There is a lack of complete trust.

3) Irregularity: The practice of meditation is not regular. There are times when you do not do it. Due to irregularity, sadhak’s body is not ready for meditation. This forms the first barrier in meditation.

4) Not free from expectation: While meditating, sadhaks keep some form of expectation in their mind (chitta). This expectation is a big barrier in meditation.

5) Impure Mind (Chitta): When there is any expectation in the mind (chitta), the mind (chitta) will never be pure. When the mind (chitta) is not pure how can it ever be strong? The result of a limited goal will also be limited. A teacher does not have any expectations from students who have left school but they do expect something good from students who attend school regularly. Because you meditate regularly the expectation from you is that you progress.

After reading this message you need to introspect and remove all the shortcomings within you. The day before yesterday I visited the centre there (Mauritius) and met all the sadhaks there who had collected in large numbers. I gave them the required guidance and also enjoyed being in their company.

My best wishes to you all on the eve of Navratri festival. I wish that the eve of this Navratri festival brings new energy in your life. Lots of blessings to all of you.

Yours Baba Swami
