The Happy Path to Success

The Happy Path to Success

The Happy Path to Success

Attended Mr Lalaji talk on success and happiness last week, it was a awesome talk and it somehow reminded myself of what I used to be previously. Let me share with you a typical cycle that most of us go through.

As we grow up, we start to develop attachment to many things, we label things as “My”, for example, “my house, my car, my money, my food, my bag”. We are so obsessed and deluded that we based our success on these things. And we would only feel happy when we feel we have achieved this goals and become successful. As I grew older, most of my friends said, “I want to have a big house!”, “I want to own a sports car! ”, “I want to earn my first million!” and “I want to move all the way up the corporate ladder!”, the list could go on and on......

However most people don’t understand that even if they reach or achieve their success or goals, things doesn’t stop there. The answer? Greed. Even when we have piles of food, we still feel hunger; even if we possess mountains of wealth, we still want to amass more; and even if we have the power of a king, we are not satisfied. Is this the way we are going to live our lives? Sacrificing our youth and our energy, chasing after goals and achievement that doesn’t seem to have a finishing line.

Mr Lalaji mentioned that happiness should come before success, which I feel should be the right way. And I am glad through meditation, I have finally woke up from this horrible endless cycle. Be glad that you are having a job while other’s may be struggling to find a job; be glad that we are actually contributing while others do not even have the chance to contribute. Feel happy about what you are doing and success will automatically come to you.

This theory have been proved by Shawn Anchor, a student from Harvard University. You can google or search in Youtube for his videos and talks on this. Bottom-line is, when one feels happy, he or she will most likely be 20% more productive.

Buddha once said “ Its better to travel well than to arrive”. Life is not about who owns the biggest house, fastest car or the most wealth. Life is a journey.

Second part of the talk, we were being taught about being grateful and count our blessing. Honestly speaking, this is easier said than done. We can easily take for granted many things in our daily life. We expect to be alive the next day; we expect to buy/get food easily whenever we want; and we expect our environment to be comfortable for us.

Mr Lalaji taught us to write down 3 things which we are grateful for daily, I feel this is a good practice! Besides this method is also mentioned in the book “ Secrets”. The purpose of doing this is to cultivate a sense of being grateful for everything, be aware if there’s anything that we took for granted. It’s not easy and I believe it’s possible with perseverance!

We were also being told to count our blessing, by writing down all the wonderful things that happened daily on a piece of paper. Everyone in this world is blessed one way or another, hence we should be grateful for this!

And I end off with a quote from Rhonda Byrne, author of The Secret, “Be grateful for what you have now. As you begin to think about all the things in your life you are grateful for, you will be amazed at the never ending thoughts that come back to you of more things to be grateful for. You have to make a start, and then the law of attraction will receive those grateful thoughts and give you more just like them.”
